Extensive research has been conducted on roadway access management and smart growth planning, highlighting the benefits of these integrated practices for safety, congestion management, and livability. There is a growing recognition of the importance of context-sensitive plans and projects that meet the needs of all roadway users. As a result, many agencies across the U.S. and abroad have implemented transportation plans that include access management policies and strategies to advance goals for Vision Zero, complete streets, and congestion management.
This webinar will present key highlights from the access management curriculum for university planning and engineering programs, including how it addresses the theory, practice, and benefits of roadway access management. This curriculum was designed to equip instructors with resources that ensure emerging professionals enter practice with a solid understanding of access management and its critical role in the transportation system. The presentation will also provide an overview of how the materials from this research-based curriculum can be integrated into various planning and engineering courses.
About the Presenter
Tia Boyd, AICP, is a Research Associate with the Center for Urban Transportation Research at the University of South Florida. Tia’s work focuses on transportation decision-making with an emphasis on access management, interagency coordination, public participation, strategic and organizational management, and statewide and metropolitan policy, planning, and programming. Her work has included developing professional training programs, designing course materials for graduate transportation planning programs, and writing a textbook on multimodal transportation planning. She served as one of the lead investigators for the Access Management Curriculum for University Planning and Engineering Programs.
