The Tampa Bay Citizens Academy on Transportation (TB-CAT) entered its second year this fall. Beginning October 12, 2022, this free eight-week virtual learning course teaches citizens about transportation in the city of Tampa including decision making, project funding, equity, and infrastructure. The course acts as an introduction to the Tampa Bay region’s projects and participants become ambassadors for projects that are safe, equitable, and sustainable. Led by CUTR Senior Research Associates Jason Jackman and Tia Boyd, the course was extremely successful in 2021, and the team anticipates another positive response from participants and presenters alike. “We expanded registration this year to accommodate interested parties,” said Jackman. “This year, we double registration, and we’re excited for a full range of speakers.” Students will hear from elected officials, City of Tampa employees, and transportation and planning researchers. At the end of the course, students will present their final improvement projects to elected officials and transportation professionals.
The course will meet weekly until December 7, 2022.
