Examining the intersection between engineering, outreach, planning, and science, the Out of My Lane podcast explores transportation from the perspective of researchers and how projects fuel improvements forall users. The Center for Urban Transportation Research (CUTR) at the University of South Florida (USF) began production in late 2021. The first season explores the National Institute for Congestion Reduction (NICR), a National University Transportation Center. NICR, housed at CUTR, provides multimodal congestion reduction strategies through real-world deployments to optimize the efficiency and reliability of the transportation system for all users. The podcast discusses NICR research projects, including projects focused on equity, safety, and the future of transportation. CUTR collaborated with USF’s Zimmerman School of Advertising & Mass Communications to produce the podcast. Guided by award-winning journalist and USF professor Wayne Garcia, Out of My Lane is supported by USF student producers, providing students a hands-on opportunity to interview, edit, and engineer their own podcast.
“We’re excited to work on Out of My Lane,” said Garcia. “Podcasting is a growth area to tell the stories of organizations and their ideas and people. The Zimmerman School is especially gratified by the fact that the podcast is using our experienced radio students to produce the episodes.”
The second season began preproduction in August 2022 with a planned release in spring 2023.
